Meet Our Drum Majors

Categories: News

As the Pride of Niner Nation begins its first season, we introduce you to our drum majors, Madelyn Colby and Quinten Wrenn.

Madelyn is a sophomore from Concord, North Carolina, and is studying communications at UNC Charlotte. A seasoned band member, she was the drum major of Concord High School’s Spider Marching Band for two years and plays piccolo.

“What I love most about marching band is the tight-knit community that is formed within,” says Madelyn. “It is such a safe haven where lifelong bonds are built, and it goes along with performing with people. There is absolutely nothing like performing alongside people with whom you share a common goal.”

Quinten also served as drum major of his high school marching band, the Parkwood Marching Rebel Regiment at Parkwood High School in Monroe, North Carolina. A euphonium player, Quinten is a music education major and hopes to become a high school band director after graduation.

“I am looking forward to all of the ‘firsts’ for the Pride of Niner Nation Marching Band,” Quinten says. “We are making history each day, and I love being a part of each step. One of the best things I love about marching band is its sense of unity and expression. Music brings all people together, and I love that!”

Chosen through audition, drum majors serve as the field conductors of the marching band, leading in practice and performance. It is both a great honor and a great responsibility to be named drum major. We wish Madelyn and Quinten and the Pride of Niner Nation success in their first season!
